Surrey, B.C. – The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC is investigating an incident in Prince George.
Information provided by the RCMP indicates that on July 30, 2020 at approximately 7:25 p.m., officers responded to a call regarding a stolen vehicle from Alberta which was observed in a parking lot in the 1400-block of Old Cariboo Highway with three occupants inside, one man and two women.
When officers arrived, the occupants had reportedly left the vehicle and entered the wooded area near Highway 16 East. The man, the affected person in this case, was located and arrested with the assistance of a police service dog. He was then transported to the RCMP detachment cells. The two women were arrested without incident.
Emergency Health Services (EHS) were called to assess the man while at the detachment. EHS transported the man to a local area hospital where he was found to be suffering serious injuries.
The IIO is the independent civilian oversight agency of the police in British Columbia. It investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
