Surrey, B.C. – The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC is investigating an incident in Revelstoke.

Information provided by the RCMP indicates that on December 13, 2021 at approximately 12:10 a.m., an officer observed a man operating a snowmobile without a helmet on Highway 1 eastbound near Victoria Street. It is reported that the officer completed a U-turn to follow the snowmobile, but the man on the snowmobile rode away and turned onto Woodenhead Loop, travelling the wrong direction on a one-way street before being involved in a collision.

The man walked a short distance from the scene before being found by officers. He sustained serious but not life-threatening injuries in the collision and was transported to the hospital for treatment.

The IIO has commenced an investigation to determine what role, if any, police actions or inactions played in the man’s injuries.
