Surrey, B.C. – The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC is investigating an incident in Surrey.

On February 8, 2021 at approximately 5:25 a.m., police attempted to stop a man on a bicycle as part of an ongoing investigation in the 1000-block of 152 Street. In the process of stopping the man, police used force which resulted in injury. Emergency Health Services attended but the man reportedly declined to go to the hospital.

On February 15, 2021, the IIO became aware that the man on the bicycle may have sustained serious injury and an investigation was commenced.

The IIO is asking any person who saw, heard or recorded the incident to please contact the Witness Line toll-free at 1-855-446-8477 or via the contact form on the iiobc.ca website.

Background

The IIO is the independent civilian oversight agency of the police in British Columbia. It investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
