Surrey, B.C. – The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC is investigating an incident in Vancouver.
On August 27, 2020, an interaction occurred while members of the Vancouver Police Department were taking a man into custody. The man was subsequently transported to a local area hospital.
On February 19, 2021, the IIO became aware that the man may have sustained serious injury and an investigation was commenced.
Background
The IIO is the independent civilian oversight agency of the police in British Columbia. It investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
