Surrey, B.C. – The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC is investigating an incident in Vancouver.
Information provided by the Vancouver Police Department (VPD) indicates that on March 20, 2021 at approximately 8:40 p.m., an altercation between police and a man occurred outside the VPD jail located on East Cordova Street. As the man may have sustained injuries during the interaction, Emergency Health Services were called, and he was taken to a local hospital for assessment.

Background
The IIO is the independent civilian oversight agency of the police in British Columbia. It investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
