Surrey, B.C. – The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC is investigating an incident in Vancouver.

Information provided by the Vancouver Police Department indicates that on June 6, 2021 at approximately 9:30 p.m., police received a call regarding an alleged incident and attended a residential building in the first block of East Hastings Street.

While police were in the vicinity of the unit in question, a woman sustained injuries attempting to exit the building from a second-floor window. Emergency Health Services attended and transported the woman to a local area hospital for treatment.

The IIO will investigate to determine what role, if any, police actions or inaction may have played in the incident.

Background

The IIO is the independent civilian oversight agency of the police in British Columbia. It investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
