Surrey, B.C. – The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC is investigating an incident in Vancouver.

Information provided by the affected person indicates that on June 10, 2021 at approximately 9:00 p.m., there was a disagreement at a home in the 3200-block of East 58th Avenue* and two women departed. The two women spoke to police, who were in the area regarding an unrelated matter, about the disagreement and officers returned with the women to the home to speak to the male affected person.

There was reportedly an altercation, and the man sustained an injury while being taken into custody.

The IIO was advised of the incident on June 14 and has commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Background

The IIO is the independent civilian oversight agency of the police in British Columbia. It investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
