Surrey, B.C. – The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC is investigating an incident in Vancouver.

Information provided by the Vancouver Police Department indicates that on January 13, 2022, police received information regarding an alleged altercation between two men that occurred earlier that day. One of the men reportedly returned to his residence in the 900 block of Main Street where he was located by police at approximately 9:00 p.m. and arrested.

At some point during the day, the man sustained a serious but not life-threatening injury. The IIO has commenced an investigation to determine what role, if any, police actions may have played.

Background

The IIO is the independent civilian oversight agency of the police in British Columbia. It investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
