Surrey, B.C. – The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC is investigating an incident in Vancouver.

Information provided by the Vancouver Police Department indicates that at approximately 2:10 p.m. on January 27, 2022, police located a man with an outstanding warrant on East Broadway. It is reported that the man fled and was found again in a yard in the 2300 block of Clark Drive.

A police service dog was used to assist in taking the man into custody, and he sustained a serious but not life-threatening dog bite injury.

Emergency Health Services and Vancouver Fire Services provided medical assistance, and the man was subsequently transported to a hospital for treatment.

Background

The IIO is the independent civilian oversight agency of the police in British Columbia. It investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
