Surrey, B.C. – The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC is investigating an incident in Vancouver.
Information reported by the Vancouver Police Department states that in the morning on February 20, 2022, police received a call regarding the location of a man with outstanding warrants. When officers arrived at the location, it is reported that the man fled on foot.
At about 12:00 p.m., a police service dog tracked the man to the 2000-block of East 45 Avenue where he was arrested. The man sustained a serious but not life-threatening dog bite injury while being taken into custody.
The IIO was notified of the incident shortly after it occurred and has commenced an investigation.

Background
The IIO is the independent civilian oversight agency of the police in British Columbia. It investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
