Surrey, B.C. – The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC is investigating an incident in Vancouver.

Information from the Vancouver Police Department (VPD) states that at about 9:15 a.m. on May 31, 2022, officers responded to a report regarding a man alleged to have weapons in the 1100-block of Franklin Street. When police arrived, an interaction occurred, and the man sustained serious injuries.

He was subsequently taken to the hospital for treatment.

The IIO was notified of the incident on June 2, 2022 and has commenced an investigation.

Background

The IIO is the independent civilian oversight agency of the police in British Columbia. It investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
