Surrey, B.C. — The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC is investigating an incident in Vancouver which resulted in a serious injury to one man.

Information provided by the Vancouver Police Department states that at about 8:45 p.m. on December 6, 2022, officers responded to a request for assistance in the 300-block of Alexander Street related to a man who was alleged to be threatening others with a weapon.

It is reported that the man did not comply with police commands, and he sustained a serious but not life-threatening injury during his arrest.

The IIO has commenced an investigation.

Background

The IIO is the Independent civilian oversight agency of the police in British Columbia. It investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
