Surrey, B.C. – The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC is investigating an incident in Vanderhoof.
Information provided by the RCMP indicates that on February 13, 2021 at approximately 10:20 a.m., police were called to conduct a wellness check at a residence on Kenney Dam Road. When officers arrived, they located several individuals, including a man who they advised was under arrest. He reportedly resisted being taken into custody, and an interaction occurred.
The man was transported to RCMP cells where Emergency Health Services were called and found him to be suffering serious injury. He was transported to a local area hospital for treatment.

Background
The IIO is the independent civilian oversight agency of the police in British Columbia. It investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
