Surrey, B.C. – The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC is investigating an incident in Vernon.

Information provided by the RCMP indicates that on December 12, 2020 at approximately 5:30 p.m., officers responded to reports of an alleged domestic disturbance at a residence in the 4000-block of 34A Street. When officers arrived, two men and one woman were found at the location. One man was placed under arrest, and the woman was arrested shortly after. While being taken into custody, the woman sustained a serious injury.

The woman was taken to the Vernon RCMP detachment, where Emergency Health Services attended and transported her to a local area hospital for treatment.

Background

The IIO is the independent civilian oversight agency of the police in British Columbia. It investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
