Surrey, B.C. – The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC is investigating an officer-involved shooting in Abbotsford.

Information provided by the Abbotsford Police Department indicates that on September 11, 2020 at approximately 3:15 p.m., officers responded to an incident involving two individuals in the 1800-block of McCallum Road. One was arrested without incident. There was an interaction between officers and the other man, and the man was shot.

Emergency Health Services were called and the man was transported to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The IIO is asking any person who saw or recorded the incident to contact the IIO Witness Line toll free at 1-855-446-8477 or via the contact form on the iiobc.ca website.

Background
The IIO is the independent civilian oversight agency of the police in British Columbia. It investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
