Surrey, B.C. – The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC is investigating an officer-involved shooting incident in Chilliwack.
Information provided by the RCMP indicates that on January 12, 2021 at approximately 7:10 a.m., a man was involved in a domestic incident at a Chilliwack residence and departed in a vehicle. Officers subsequently located the man in his vehicle near the intersection of Lickman Road and Keith Wilson Road.
At about 8:55 a.m., officers approached the vehicle, reportedly found the man in possession of a weapon and he was shot by police. Emergency Health Services transported the man to a local area hospital with serious injuries.

Background
The IIO is the independent civilian oversight agency of the police in British Columbia. It investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
