Surrey, B.C. – The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC is investigating an officer-involved shooting in Prince George.

Information provided by the RCMP indicates that on May 31, 2021 just before 7:00 a.m., police conducted a traffic stop of a vehicle near the rear of the North Star Motel in the area of Victoria Street and 15 Avenue*. An interaction occurred during the stop, and shots were fired by police.

Officers provided first aid until Emergency Health Services arrived and transported the male driver to the hospital with a serious, life-threatening gunshot injury.

The police continue their investigation into the circumstances of the initial stop.

Background

The IIO is the independent civilian oversight agency of the police in British Columbia. It investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
