Surrey, B.C. — The Independent Investigations Office of BC (IIO) is investigating an arrest in Vancouver where one man sustained serious injuries.

Information provided by the Vancouver Police Department states that at about 11:10 p.m. on Saturday (January 25, 2025), officers were conducting an unrelated investigation in the 300 block of East Hastings when a man, the affected person in this case, approached them.

It is reported that the man was attempting to interfere with the investigation and was arrested. He sustained serious but not life-threatening injuries while being taken into custody and was taken to a hospital for treatment.

The IIO was notified of the incident shortly after it occurred and has commenced an investigation. Initial investigative steps will confirm the details of the arrest and if officers’ actions were necessary, reasonable, and proportionate in the circumstances.
