Surrey, B.C. — The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC is investigating the death of one man in Burnaby on August 3, 2023.

Information provided by the RCMP states that officers initially responded to a residence in the Forest Grove area of Burnaby on August 2, 2023 following a call concerned about the wellness of a man. No one was detained at the time.

Officers were again called to same residence the following day (August 3) after a woman reportedly raised safety concerns about a man living there.

Officers responded around 7:40 a.m. that day, later entering the home where they found one man in medical distress and immediately provided first aid. The man was later pronounced deceased.

The IIO was notified of the incident on August 3, 2023 and started an investigation. Initial investigative steps are working to confirm what if any, police actions or inaction played in the man’s death and the day leading up to it.
