Surrey, B.C. — The Independent Investigations Office of BC (IIO) is investigating an incident in Vancouver on November 23, 2023 that resulted in one man sustaining serious injuries.
Information provided by the Vancouver Police Department states that at approximately 5:23 p.m., officers responded to a call about a potential person in crisis on the Granville Street Bridge. Officers located and spoke with the affected person nearby and concluded there were no safety concerns before leaving the scene.
At around 6:40 p.m., BCEHS called police back to the area due to the same person having fallen from the Bridge and sustaining serious injuries. The AP was transported to a hospital in serious condition.
The IIO has commenced an investigation, and initial investigative steps will seek to confirm what happened during the incident, and what role, if any, police actions or inaction may have played in the serious harm.
