Surrey, B.C. — The Independent Investigations Office of BC (IIO) is seeking witnesses to an arrest in Langley in which one woman sustained a serious injury.

Information provided by the Langley RCMP states that at about 8:00 p.m. on January 12, 2024, police attended a residential building in the 5600 block of 201A Street in response to a report of a disturbance.

It is reported that officers spoke to the subject of the complaint, a woman, before advising her that she was under arrest. The woman sustained a serious but not life-threatening injury while being taken into custody.

The IIO was notified of the incident on January 22, 2024 and commenced an investigation. Initial investigative steps have confirmed that the woman’s injury meets the threshold of serious harm, as defined by the Police Act. The investigation continues to determine whether police actions were necessary, proportionate, and reasonable under the circumstances.
