Surrey, B.C. – The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC is seeking witnesses to an incident in Duncan.
As reported in our initial release, on July 15, 2020 at approximately 4:30 p.m., the RCMP arrested a man who was seen lying on the ground at the intersection of Alexander Street and Highway 1. The man was then transported to RCMP cells before being released early the next day. The man was found deceased later that day at an address in the 2500-block of Lewis Street.
The IIO requests that any person who saw, heard, or recorded the man while he was lying on the ground or at the time of his arrest on July 15, 2020 contact the IIO Witness Line toll free at 1-855-446-8477 or via the contact form on the iiobc.ca website.
Background
The IIO is the independent civilian oversight agency of the police in British Columbia. It investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
