Surrey, B.C. – The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC is seeking witnesses to an incident in Vancouver.

Information provided by the Vancouver Police Department indicates that on September 20, 2020 at approximately 2:35 a.m., police attended a call in the 1400-block of East 13th Avenue regarding a man lying under a parked vehicle. When officers arrived on scene, the man reportedly attempted to leave the scene on a bicycle. Officers pursued on foot and a short distance later, the man was arrested with the assistance of a police service dog.

Emergency Health Services (EHS) were called and transported the man to a local area hospital as he had sustained serious injuries during his arrest.

Background

The IIO is the independent civilian oversight agency of the police in British Columbia. It investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
