Surrey, B.C. — The Independent Investigations Office of BC (IIO) is investigating an incident in Coquitlam where one person sustained injuries.
Information provided by the RCMP states, that on July 19, 2024, police conducted a wellness check on one person at a residence on Hart Street.
Officers spoke with the person and then made the decision to apprehend him under the Mental Health Act.
There was an interaction, and the person later self-reported serious injuries.
The IIO has commenced an investigation, and initial investigative steps will seek to confirm the details of the incident and what role, if any, the officers’ actions or inaction may have played in the person’s injuries.
