Surrey, B.C. – The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of B.C. has been notified of a police-involved incident in Langford.

West Shore RCMP reported that on Tuesday 23, April 2019, at approximately 11:07 a.m., an officer reported two vehicles travelling at a high rate of speed on Sooke Road. Officers dealing with an unrelated motor vehicle collision were already at the scene and had emergency lights activated.

Shortly after the two vehicles passed the officers, one of the vehicles collided with a large truck. The driver of the vehicle was initially taken into custody and then transferred to hospital where it was determined the male had sustained serious injuries. RCMP notified the IIO when the extent of the injuries was confirmed.

The IIO has commenced an investigation into the incident to determine what role, if any, the officers’ actions or inaction may have played in the injuries suffered by the male.

West Shore RCMP are concurrently investigating an earlier incident at the Happy Valley Market.

Background:
The IIO is the independent civilian oversight agency of the police in British Columbia. It investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
