Surrey – The Independent Investigations Office of B.C. has been notified of an incident in West Vancouver.*
RCMP reported that on February 05, 2020, at approximately 2:30 a.m., a male was released from University RCMP custody. He was later discovered deceased near Lions Gate Bridge.
Subsequently the IIO was notified and has commenced an investigation to determine whether the death was related to the actions or inactions of the officers involved.
Background
The IIO is the independent civilian oversight agency of the police in British Columbia. It investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
