Surrey – The Independent Investigations Office of B.C. has received notification of a police-involved incident in Vancouver on January 22, 2019.

According to the Vancouver Police, at approximately 08:00 a.m., officers attended a residence in Vancouver regarding a current investigation. Officers received no response from the resident.

Officers returned with a warrant and entered the residence at approximately 11:30 a.m. They reported that the female resident was located on an awning outside of the dwelling a few floors down. Emergency Health Services (EHS) attended and transported the female to hospital, where it was determined the female had sustained serious injuries.

The IIO has commenced an investigation into the incident to determine what role, if any, the officers’ actions or inaction may have played in the injuries suffered by the female.

Background

The IIO is the independent civilian oversight agency of the police in British Columbia. It investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
