IIO Provides Update into October 2025 Death in Quesnel (2025-249)
Case: 2025-249 Incident Date: October 27, 2025 Location: Quesnel Detachment: Quesnel Agency: RCMP Incident Classification: Death Case Status: Open - Investigation in ProgressSurrey, B.C. — The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC is providing an update to the investigation of an October 2025 death in Quesnel (IIO 2025-249).
Around 1:10 a.m. on October 27, members of the Quesnel RCMP responded to a call about an unwanted person outside a building on Carson Ave. Officers attended and spoke to a man before leaving.
Shortly after 8:30 a.m., BC Emergency Health Services responded to a call about a person at the same location and paramedics found the man police had spoken to earlier in the day.
The man was unresponsive. Paramedics provided aid and transported the man to a hospital where he was later pronounced deceased.
The IIO was notified of the incident shortly after it occurred and began an investigation.
So far, IIO investigators have canvassed for witnesses, collected evidence and conducted interviews. The IIO is continuing to review and analyze reports and records and is awaiting the results of an autopsy.
The IIO investigation into the incident continues.

The IIO is the independent civilian oversight agency of officers and detention guards in British Columbia. It investigates all incidents involving officers or detention guards that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
