Surrey, B.C. — The Independent Investigations Office of BC (IIO) has concluded its investigation into a motor vehicle incident that occurred in Nanaimo on April 26, 2025 (IIO 2025-109), resulting in injuries to multiple people.
Shortly before midnight, Nanaimo RCMP officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop of a motorcycle in the downtown area.
The motorcycle did not stop and was subsequently involved in a collision with a taxi near the intersection of Victoria Road and Milton Street.
The two youths on the motorcycle were seriously harmed in the collision, eventually recovering at home. The two taxi occupants were not seriously injured.
The IIO was notified of the incident shortly after it occurred and commenced an investigation.
The chief civilian director has now reviewed the evidence collected by IIO investigators – including witness accounts, medical records, video footage and police radio calls – and has determined the matter will not be referred to the BC Prosecution Service for consideration of charges.
The IIO investigation is now concluded, and a public report will be published following conclusion of a related police investigation and court process.
