Surrey, B.C. — The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC has now completed its investigation into the April 2025 injuries of a man while being arrested in Prince George (IIO 2025-093).
Shortly before midnight on April 9, 2025, police received a call from staff at a supportive housing facility in the 1500 block of Victoria Street regarding a suspected intoxicated man walking around the property with a firearm.
When officers arrived, the man was found outdoors on the facility’s property and police took him into custody. The man was subsequently noted to have sustained a serious but not life-threatening injury during his arrest and was taken to a hospital for treatment.
The chief civilian director has reviewed the evidence, including statements from the affected person, civilian witnesses, witness officers, medical and scene evidence, and police reports, and has determined that there are no reasonable grounds to believe that any officer may have committed an offence.
The IIO investigation is now concluded. Due to concurrent court proceedings related to the incident, the IIO’s public report will not be released on the IIO website until that process has concluded.
Background
The IIO is the Independent civilian oversight agency of the police in British Columbia. It investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
