Surrey. B.C. – The Independent Investigations Office of B.C. has released jurisdiction regarding an incident that occurred in Coquitlam (2019-222).

The IIO was notified on November 30, 2019 that at approximately 5:50 p.m., an officer was driving a marked police vehicle on Lougheed Hwy, with emergency lights and sirens en route to assist another officer. As the officer drove through the Westwood Street intersection he was in collision with a civilian vehicle. Two further vehicles were also involved in the collision scene.

The IIO received reports in relation to the medical records and independently clarified the level of injuries sustained by the civilians involved in the collision. The level of injury did not reach that of serious harm.

As a result, the investigation has been concluded.

Background

The IIO is the independent civilian oversight agency of the police in British Columbia. It investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
