Surrey – The Independent Investigations Office of B.C. has released jurisdiction regarding an incident that occurred in Vancouver (IIO 2019-127).
The IIO was notified by the VPD on July 24, 2019 that following the arrest of an individual, the individual had complained of an injury and had been taken to hospital by police.
The IIO independently clarified that the level of injury did not reach that of serious harm and therefore concluded the IIO investigation at that time.
Background
The IIO is the independent civilian oversight agency of the police in British Columbia. It investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
