Independent Investigations Office
For Immediate Release
Surrey, B.C. – The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC is seeking witnesses to an incident in Kamloops.
The IIO is seeking witnesses who observed an arrest in Riverside Park at about 7:30 p.m. on December 3, 2021.
On that evening, officers en route to another call were provided a description of a suspect involved in an alleged theft in the Lansdowne Shopping Village. The officers saw a male on a bicycle who matched the description near the intersection of 3rd Avenue and Lansdowne Street. The cyclist then entered Riverside Park where he sustained serious injury while being taken into custody.
The cyclist, the affected person in the IIO investigation, is no longer believed to be linked to a robbery that occurred the same evening at the Lansdowne Shopping Village.
The IIO is asking any person with relevant information or video footage of the incident to please contact the Witness Line toll-free at 1-855-446-8477 or via the contact form on the iiobc.ca website.
The IIO is the independent civilian oversight agency of the police in British Columbia. It investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
