Surrey, B.C. — The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC is looking for witnesses to an arrest in Delta that led to one man suffering serious harm on October 29, 2023.
At approximately 11:46 a.m., police responded to a call of an unwanted person at a private residence in the area of 64th Ave and 120th St.
Officers located the affected person nearby and attempted to arrest the man for trespassing. During the interaction, the man suffered a serious injury.
He was apprehended and taken to a local hospital for treatment.
The IIO was notified of the incident the following day and has now commenced an investigation. Initial steps will seek to confirm the details of the arrest itself, and whether any force used during the interaction was reasonable, necessary, and justified under the circumstances.
