Surrey – The Independent Investigations Office of B.C. is seeking witnesses to a police incident in Shawnigan Lake on November 10, 2018.
Reported by police, shortly after 12:00 p.m. on November 10, 2018, Shawnigan RCMP were called to a residence in Millbay Road following the report of an assault. Police report that upon arrival, an interaction occurred between officers and a male with a knife. During the course of this interaction police shots were fired.
The male was transported to Victoria General Hospital but did not survive his injuries.
The IIO has deployed and is asking anyone who witnessed the incident to contact the IIO witness line at 1-855-446-8477.
Background
The IIO is the independent civilian oversight agency of the police in British Columbia. It investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
