Surrey – The Independent Investigations Office is seeking further witnesses to an officer-involved shooting in Vancouver.

According to Vancouver Police Department, on May 24, 2016, officers responded to a call about a car on fire in the McDonald’s parking lot near Hastings and Cassiar St. in Vancouver. Upon arrival, police report they were confronted by a male affected person who was in possession of a knife. Shots were fired, the man was taken into custody and was transported to hospital with injuries.

The IIO is asking witnesses or anyone who knows of potential witnesses who may have been in the area between 12:30 p.m. – 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday May 24 to contact the IIO Toll-free Witness Line at 1-855-446-8477.

In addition, the IIO is aware that a number of people who witnessed the incident may have taken pictures or video during or after the incident took place. These witnesses are also asked to contact the IIO even if the pictures or videos have been uploaded onto social media.
