IIO Seeks Witnesses to Incident in Port Moody

SURREY – The Independent Investigations Office of BC has assumed jurisdiction for investigating an incident involving the Vancouver Police Department.

On Sept. 16, 2014, various units within the VPD responded to a complaint of an alleged armed robbery that had reportedly occurred in Richmond.

According to the VPD, at approximately 4:30 pm, in Port Moody, VPD officers came into contact with four males who were the subject of the earlier complaint. One male was taken into custody without incident. Two were arrested with the assistance of the dog service and received minor injuries. The fourth was taken into custody and was later determined to have sustained a fracture to his jaw. The affected person was hospitalized for medical treatment.

The IIO was notified and have assigned investigators to the case involving the affected person. The VPD maintain full jurisdiction over the concurrent investigations involving the affected person.

The incident under IIO investigation occurred in the Westmount area of Port Moody at about 5:00 p.m.  Any potential witnesses who have not already been interviewed by the IIO are asked to call the IIO Info line at 1-855-446-8477.

As set by the Chief Civilian Director, the IIO’s goals are to conduct fair, unbiased, timely, thorough and competent investigations, and ensure transparency through public reporting.

Due to the preliminary stage of the investigation, no additional information is available at the present time.
