IIO Seeks Witnesses, Updates Investigation into October 2025 Arrest in Coquitlam (2025-241)

Around 3:45 p.m. on October 15, members of the Lower Mainland District Integrated Emergency Response Team (ERT) were arresting a man on an outstanding warrant in the parking lot at the Coquitlam Centre Mall on Barnet Highway.
The man was taken into custody with the assistance of a police service dog. He was taken to police cells and later to a hospital for assessment and treatment of a serious but not life-threatening dog bite injury.
The IIO was notified of the incident the following day and began investigating.
IIO investigators have now completed canvassing and collected evidence. They have also conducted interviews with civilian witnesses and police ERT officers. Further interviews are still to be scheduled.
Investigators would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the man’s arrest or who may have video footage of the event.
