New Investigations – Jurisdiction Sustained
On January 28, an adult male sustained a wrist injury at or around the time he was taken into the custody of the Abbotsford Police Department. He was treated in hospital and the incident was reported to the IIO.
On February 3, an adult male sustained a leg injury at or around the time he was taken into the custody of the Creston RCMP. He was treated in hospital and the incident was reported to the IIO.
On February 8, police officers in Vancouver arrested an adult male and transported him to Vancouver cells. Upon arrival the individual was unconscious and subsequently transported to hospital. The IIO was notified immediately and deployed investigators to the scene. The affected person died in hospital on February 13.
On February 12, police officers in Vancouver responded to a complaint of an adult male near East Cordova and Main Street. The affected person was reportedly distraught and threatening to harm himself. As police entered the residence, the affected person sustained serious self-inflicted injuries to his neck. He was given emergency medical care at the scene and transported to hospital for further treatment. The incident was reported to the IIO immediately after it occurred.
On February 13, an adult male sustained an arm injury at or around the time he was taken into the custody of the Ridge Meadows RCMP. He was treated in hospital and the incident was reported to the IIO.
Investigations are presently underway into all of these incidents. The involved police agencies remain responsible for any parallel investigations into the alleged actions of the affected persons.
