IIO Update November 14, 2014

NEW INVESTIGATIONS:

IIO 14-00o179 – Surrey RCMP

On October 10, an adult male sustained serious injuries to his hand at or around the time he was taken into the custody of the Surrey RCMP. The incident was reported to the IIO without delay. Preliminary investigations were conducted over a period of several weeks, and jurisdiction was sustained on November 7.

IIO 14-198 – Victoria Police Department

On November 1, officers from the Victoria Police Department attended a residence in James Bay in response to a 911 call. They were confronted by one adult male, who was shot by police and died as a result of his injuries. The Victoria Police Department reported the incident to the IIO immediately.
