IIO Update October 3, 2014

 

 New Investigations – Jurisdiction Sustained

IIO 14-00o158 – Kamloops RCMP

On September 10, 2014, an adult male sustained serious injuries while he was involved in a foot pursuit with members of the Kamloops RCMP. The affected person was hospitalized for treatment and the incident was reported to the IIO without delay. After conducting a preliminary investigation, including an interview with the affected person, the IIO sustained jurisdiction on September 26.

IIO 14-00o168 – Coquitlam RCMP

On the evening of September 30, 2014, an adult male sustained serious dog bite injuries in an incident in Coquitlam, involving members of the Coquitlam RCMP and the Lower Mainland Integrated Police Dog Section. The affected person was hospitalized for treatment and the incident was reported to the IIO without delay.

Investigations are ongoing in both cases. Where there are concurrent investigations into the actions of the affected persons, the local police agency maintains full jurisdiction.
