IIO Updates Investigation into October 2025 Incident in Vancouver (2025-236)

At about 11:10 p.m. on October 10, Vancouver Police Department officers attended a motor vehicle incident in the 1300 block of West Georgia Street where a black Tesla had collided with a parked vehicle.
The passenger was taken to a hospital for treatment, while the man driving was taken into police custody, placed in a police wagon and driven to the VPD jail. Upon arrival, the man was found to be in medical distress, and aid was provided until Emergency Health Services arrived and took him to a hospital.
The IIO was notified of the incident shortly after it occurred and began investigating.
The IIO can now confirm the man driving the Tesla died shortly after arriving at the hospital.
To date, IIO investigators have canvassed for evidence, conducted interviews with civilian witnesses and conducted forensic examinations of the vehicles involved.
They are still awaiting the results of medical and other reports for analysis.
The IIO investigation continues.
