Independent Investigations Appeals for Witnesses

INFORMATION BULLETIN
Independent Investigations Office
For Immediate Release

SURREY – The Independent Investigations Office of BC is asking anyone who may have been in the area of Canada Way and Rosewood Avenue early Sunday morning to come forward.

On March 1, 2015, shortly before 3 a.m., officers driving on patrol observed what appeared to be a robbery in progress at the 7-11 near Canada Way and Edmonds.

According to police, officers engaged two males and attempted to effect an arrest. During this interaction, shots were fired by an officer(s) and the two males subsequently fled the area. One male was located about two blocks away near a vehicle that crashed at the corner of Canada Way and Rosewood Avenue. The male affected person was taken into custody and transported to hospital with serious injuries believed to be caused by gunshot(s).  A second person of interest was subsequently taken into custody without incident.

IIO investigators were at the scene yesterday and conducted a neighbourhood canvass. Investigators have reason to believe that there were people in the area of Canada Way and Rosewood just prior to the crash.

If anyone has any information or was in the area early Sunday morning at Canada Way and Edmonds to Canada Way and Rosewood Avenue between 2:30 a.m. and 3:00 a.m., they are asked to call the IIO at 1-855-446-8477.

The focus of the IIO investigation remains the actions of the police officers. The RCMP remains responsible for the concurrent investigation into the actions of the affected person and any other persons involved prior to the incident.
