Update Regarding IIO Investigation into a Motor Vehicle Incident in Vancouver (2025-148)

Surrey, B.C. — The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC is providing an update to an investigation into a motor vehicle incident that occurred on Sunday June 15, 2025 (2025-148).

Vancouver Police Department officers were initially notified about a Grey Toyota Echo that had been stolen that day from the 0 Block of East Broadway.

Police located the car shortly before 4:30 p.m. the same day. A short time later, the Toyota was involved in a single-vehicle collision on the 8100-block of Matheson Crescent, near the intersection of Southeast Marine Drive and Boundary Road.

Police then arrested a man that had been driving and who reportedly suffered an injury during the collision. He was later taken to the hospital for assessment and treatment.

The IIO has now completed interviews of several witnesses. Investigators have also collected electronic data and information relevant to the investigation.

The IIO investigation into the incident continues.
