Update Regarding IIO Investigation into July 2025 Incident in Ridge Meadows (2025-187)
Case: 2025-187 Incident Date: July 23, 2025 Location: Maple Ridge Agency: RCMP Detachment: Ridge Meadows Incident Classification: Death Case Status: Open - Investigation in ProgressSurrey, B.C. — The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC is providing an update to an investigation into a July incident in Ridge Meadows where three people died (2025-187).
On July 23, members of the RCMP investigated a dispute that occurred earlier in the day, near the intersection of 118A Avenue and 239 Street. Officers spoke to the people involved before leaving the scene.
Police then responded to another call around 11 p.m. that evening at the same location made by a person who reported that a vehicle was on fire and that they had heard gunshots.
Upon arrival, police reported finding two people deceased and were told a third person was inside a home and armed with a weapon. Officers then set up to contain the area.
Around 2:10 a.m. the following morning (July 24), a man was located deceased inside the home from what appeared to be a self-inflicted injury.
IIO investigators have now confirmed the person located inside the home was in possession of a firearm.
The IIO has now completed interviews of several witnesses and collected forensic evidence.
The IIO investigation into the incident continues.
