New Investigation:
On September 9, RCMP officers in Smithers had multiple dealings with an adult male over a period of several hours. After a medical assessment and subsequent period of time in police cells, the male affected person was released. Shortly thereafter, police responded to a call at a local business, where the adult male was found in need of medical attention. He was transported to hospital where he was pronounced deceased. The IIO was notified at 6:17 p.m. on September 9 and after a preliminary assessment, deployed investigators to Smithers. This incident occurred in a public setting. Any potential witnesses are asked to call the IIO Info line at 1-855-446-8477.
