As part of its commitment to transparency, the IIO strives to provide thorough and timely information to the public. When the Chief Civilian Director (CCD) has determined that no offence has been committed, a Public Report may be issued where it is in the public interest to do so. Public Reports provide a narrative of the incident and summary of the legal principles applied when the CCD made their decision.

If the CCD concludes an officer may have committed an offence, the CCD may refer the matter to Crown Counsel for consideration of charges and the IIO will issue a media release. Media releases and Clear Statements issued by Crown Counsel regarding investigations referred by the IIO can be found on the BC Prosecution Service website.
