Victoria – The Independent Investigations Office of BC is seeking witnesses to an arrest in Victoria.
The incident occurred on February 16, 2020 at approximately 10:00pm when Victoria PD officers arrested two males on the wharf near Harbour Air in front of the restaurant Red Fish Blue Fish. One male resisted arrest and, after a struggle, was taken into custody.
The IIO was notified later that evening and clarified that the male had sustained an injury which met the definition of serious harm. The focus of the IIO investigation is determining what role, if any, the officers’ actions may have played into the serious harm of the male.
The IIO is asking that any witnesses to this incident, including a witness who assisted officers during the arrest, contact the IIO Witness Line at 1-855-446-8477.
The IIO is the independent civilian oversight agency of the police in British Columbia. It investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm of death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
