Surrey, B.C. – The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC has concluded investigation 2023-148 into an incident of serious harm in Surrey.

On February 24, 2022, two officers from the Metro Vancouver Transit Police (Transit Police) responded to an incident in the 10200-block of City Parkway. One officer was on foot, and the other was in a police vehicle.

Contact occurred between the police vehicle and the on-foot officer, and that officer sustained serious injuries.

After reviewing all available evidence including CCTV Video, the Chief Civilian Director has determined the evidence does not meet the threshold to support recommending criminal charges.

The IIO investigation is now concluded.

Background

The IIO is the independent civilian oversight agency of the police in British Columbia. It investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
