Surrey, B.C. – The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC has concluded investigation 2022-199 into an incident in Burnaby where one man was injured.
At about 3:00 p.m. on July 28, 2022, officers with the Vancouver Police Department and Burnaby RCMP were conducting an investigation into an alleged stolen vehicle in the 3700-block of Still Creek Road.
The officers took one man into custody with the assistance of two police service dogs. The man sustained dog-bite related injuries and was transported to the hospital for treatment.
The Chief Civilian Director has reviewed the evidence – including video footage, a statement from the affected person, medical information and police records – and determined that the injuries do not meet the threshold for serious harm as defined by the Police Act.
The IIO investigation is now concluded.
The IIO is the independent civilian oversight agency of the police in British Columbia. It investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
